Description

This class is a special collaboration between Miners Alley and Foothills Art Center.

Students in this one-week class will explore how to turn the objects all around us into wearable works of art for creative characters! To dive into the world of costume design, we’ll draw on favorite characters from books, movies, television, and the stage.  We will re-use and recycle materials to divert them from the landfill and transform them into costumes. We may use fabric, deconstruct objects like handbags or shoes, or use paint to bring color and patterns into a look. We'll cover some basics of sewing, including how to choose fabrics, thread, and notions. You may be drawing, painting, embellishing, sewing, crafting, or using hot glue, duct tape, and other multipurpose materials to support your finished costumes.

No prior sewing experience needed, just a willingness to experiment and have fun. We will provide materials, tools, project instruction, and creative guidance in a supportive environment with hands-on demonstrations.

The class will end with a fashion show of the garments designed by students, on our “runway” at the Foothills Art Center Astor House!

This class has a final performance for families and friends at 7 p.m. on Friday, July 17th.
