Join Alex the Lion, Marty the Zebra, Melman the Giraffe, Gloria the hip hip Hippo and, of course, those hilarious, plotting penguins as they bound onto the stage in the musical adventure of a lifetime. Based on the smash DreamWorks animated motion picture, Madagascar – A Musical Adventure KIDS follows all of our favorite crack-a-lackin’ friends as they escape from their home in New York’s Central Park Zoo and find themselves on an unexpected journey to the madcap world of King Julien’s Madagascar.

Camper Ages:

This camp is for students who will complete third through eighth grades in May 2026. While most students will be ages 9-14, we understand about summer birthdays! We will accept registrations for 8-year-olds who have completed third grade. All registered students will be cast in either named-character or ensemble roles.

Cast information:

This production will have a cast of up to 45 students. There are 27 named speaking roles, and all other students will have ensemble roles. All cast members will be involved in musical numbers and scenic transitions. The directing team may cast understudies for larger roles.

Young artists who take part in Madagascar-KIDS will work with professional teaching artists to rehearse and perform a full musical production in just one week! We’ll provide the scripts, music, sets, props, and directors. Participants will practice their acting, singing, and dancing skills and become familiar with the theatrical production process. The week ends with two shows for friends and families, one at the end of the camp day on Friday afternoon, and one on Saturday morning. All students must attend both performances. No previous performing experience is necessary!

Auditions:

All students who register for this camp must audition, in person, at Miners Alley Performing Arts Center on Monday, May 18th.

Students who cannot attend those auditions will be asked to submit a brief video audition by email prior to the in-person auditions, no later than Friday 5/15.

Specific audition instructions, and materials to read and sing for the audition, will be emailed to registered camp participants in early May. These auditions allow our directing team to cast in advance, so that students can work on line memorization prior to the first day of camp.

All students will be given equal opportunities for participation in this production. Students must attend all rehearsals and performances. If a performer cannot attend the full rehearsal and performance schedule, please communicate conflicts clearly when asked to do so as part of the auditions on May 18.
